Fab Friday – Thank Yooou!

The team over at Fab Friday have posted a clean and simple sketch for their challenge this time. It was just what I needed for this special thank you card for my aunt who has, once again, shown what a generous “I’ll do anything for those I love” person she is.

She also has a great sense of humor…

Where are you?

Everything is up in the air right now. This can even be taken literally as I’m in an airplane on my way to California today. My hubs has an interview this afternoon, an interview that could result in a move across the country.

I’ve lived on the east coast of this great nation my entire life. Born in Florida to parents who legally immigrated here from other countries and have made a life here. Job training and random life incidents (no doubt orchestrated by God) led to a move to Georgia. The desire to be near family led to a few attempts to move back to Florida, but it never worked out for them, so they – we – always returned to Georgia.

I won’t complain. One of those moves to Florida resulted in meeting my wonderful husband. My family and then he ended up back in Georgia where we married. He and I moved to back to Florida right after our boys were born and have loved living in our smallish coastal community for the last 19 years. Opportunities to go elsewhere have popped up over the years, but they were never compelling enough to lift stakes and try anywhere else. But as we enter a new season of life, with our boys now in/starting college, all of that may be about to change.

There’s so much to consider. Every aspect of what is important to me has been playing like a much-played cassette through my mind. Part of me resists the very idea of playing this “moving” cassette again. I’ve already heard it 23 times. But for my husband and with a lot of faith and trust in God, I mentally push the tape back in and consider the possibilities. As I sift through the what-ifs, hopes and fears, I’m trying to be open to the opportunities change, even just possible change, can bring.

Some parts of this cassette are easier to “hear”; I know the lyrics of my mind and heart well enough to sing with boldness. They still ring true. Other parts of what I’m hearing didn’t really speak to me before. I listen… does it fit my life now? And then there are the parts that slow down a bit and get a little sticky. I’ve been there so long, they have been such a part of me that the tape is a bit worn. Do I skip over it or take the time to re-align the tape and listen closely to see if, like the tape, adjustments are necessary? Have I even been singing the right lyrics?

Dreaming of Spring

This morning, as I looked over the weather for the day I once again thanked God for allowing me to live in a warm climate. Yes, I really did. To be honest, He is used to hearing that sentiment from me. 😎 While some relish snowy days and cold temperatures, I am happiest with warm, tank-top, shorts and sandal-wearing weather. Any kind of cold makes me want to stay inside and sleep! A lot like this little bunny who is making himself comfy in the daffodils…

2019 the year of color

The last few days of staycation between Christmas and New Year’s have been very low-key around my house. We anticipate that 2019 will be a busy one, so I think we were just enjoying the chill time while we have it. While my guys were enjoying games and movies, I escaped to my craft room to play around with color.

One of my creative challenges (to myself) this year is to learn more about color. Along with taking an online coloring class, I decided to play along with the MFT color challenge this week. Color combos don’t come naturally to me (one of the reasons I wear blue jeans so much) so challenges are a great help and coach!

The challenge helped me with my patterned paper choices and even with what images to use. For some reason the gray made me think of my Cuban coffee maker (not espresso… no, no – this one is reserved for Cuban coffee. Bring on the sugar.) I was able to tie in the remaining colors on the cups.

Quiet in a Corner, well mostly

I’m sitting here listening to the air conditioner turn on and the sounds of laughter in the house. I guess you can call it “Mostly Quiet with Bursts of Hilarity.” It’s pretty awesome to hear my husband and boys laughing together while they roast each other over games.

While they do their thing, laundry tumbles and I’ve stolen the time to play with some yarn my sister-in-law gifted me during our recent visit.

It’s SO soft! With six skeins, my current plan is to make a lap blanket (or two?) and donate them to someone. Using a corner-to-corner technique, it’s coming together really fast and the simple pattern makes it easy to stop and start as needed between tasks.

If you would like more info about this pattern, I recommend watching this YouTube video by The Crochet Crowd. Mike explains it really well and, I don’t know about you, but watching someone work through the pattern always helps me to understand it a bit better. I hope you enjoy it!

I also hope you are enjoying these last few days of the year and spending the time on things you enjoy. And may the new year bring you nothing but blessings from above to the sound of much laughter.

Isabella – Freshly Made Sketch(es)

There’s a lot of inspiration out there on the web. Doncha love it?! Finished cards, color combos, techniques plus my all-time favorite – sketches! Today, I’m excited to share a card based on Freshly Made Sketches challenge to use this layout:

FMS366

This open sketch really leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I went with a stencil and embossing paste to which I added some red ink. It came out a little more pink than I wanted, so I laid the stencil back over and dabbed on more red ink. I used the finished color as a starting point for coloring in this beautiful image by Picket Fence.

If you also love sketches, you may be excited to hear that FMS is holding a call for Design Team members. You can click the link above to access their site for the details. Tell ya what… I’ll root for you if you root for me! 🙂
